My name is Sebastien Pouliot and I offer my services as an economic consultant, in particular in the ag and food sectors.
I left Canada for the United States in 2004 to begin a PhD in agricultural and resource economics at the University of California, Davis. After a short postdoc at the University of California Ag Issue Center, I joined the department of economics at Iowa State University in 2009 as an assistant professor. I was promoted to associate professor in 2015. I left Iowa in 2019 to return to Canada and join the team of economists at Farm Credit Canada (FCC). In October 2022, I left FCC and make the leap to start my own business as an economic consultant.
My career path has allowed me to acquire a vast experience in the fields of agriculture and economics. I’ve published scientific articles about agricultural policies, international trade, the economics of biofuels and the economics of food safety. I’ve worked as an expert in trade disputes at the WTO about red meat labeling (M-COOL), tuna labeling (dolphin safe tuna) and chicken trade (India-US). As part of my work at FCC, I’ve followed closely and modeled ag and food markets, I wrote regularly about the Canadian dairy sector and gave several economic talks.

I’m available as an event speaker in the economic, agriculture and agri-food fields. Over the past few years, I have had the opportunity to give presentations at various events. It was always a privilege to speak to decision makers in the agricultural and agri-food world. I offer to give talks in which I give an overview of current economic issues adapted to my audience.
I live in Lévis, near Quebec City. I’m available for projects in Canada and elsewhere. The easiest way to reach me is by using the email address below.
